Thrift stores, antique shops, and flea markets can be overstimulating; let this be your guide to focus you as you sift through the treasures at your fingertips!

1) Coffee Table Books
As a mom of teeny tinies, this absolutely is not on my actual list iykyk. BUT, if you’re not in a constant toddler war-zone, I would recommend browsing the book section for something unique to put on your coffee table, even as a chunking piece to place under other objects. Coffee-table books are expensive in most retail settings, and they’re unbelievably cheap secondhand.
2) Wall Art & Unique frames
I have found almost ALL of my frames secondhand. The wall art is unique and sometimes even handmade. You can absolutely avoid the mass-produced print madness that plagues every big retailer right now (no shade there, we all start somewhere).
That frame was so unique I honestly regret not snagging it. I searched all over, and this cute frame has a similar beading style but in a floral motif with lighter colors.
I actually sent my husband a picture of that New England Coastal seascape painting because I really liked it. He vetoed it, but I found one like it if it’s your taste!

3) Baskets, Bowls, Containers, Canisters
That’s a lot to remember, but think of it this way: you need something cute to put ugly things in your home. Thrift stores are a perfect place to find a base container piece for a cord-hiding DIY. Or a bowl to put your keys in by the door. Or a fruit basket for your kitchen. Or a junk catch-all bin for when you need to tidy your living room quickly. These are all over the place, and I promise, once you start looking, you’ll find so many more uses for them.

4) Easy-to-Clean sturdy Furniture
Let’s be so real, although I shop for clothes all the time at thrift stores, I am wary of furniture with fabric and cushions. It really comes down to: “can I throw this in the washing machine?”
I usually look for furniture pieces made of wood or glass or some other wipeable material that I can clean and incorporate into my own home easily.

5) Any odd upgrade items
“wow thats vague, what do you mean?”
I mean we’ve all used plastic disposable hand soap pumps: keep an eye out for glass ones, Or a brand-name heavy-duty glass pitcher instead of a dollar store one.
These are my actual thrift store finds, but here’s a similar set of hand soap pumps and obviously nobody is producing this vintage pyrex pitcher but I found this cutie lemon one with a more updated interpretation of the fuit motif that I love.
This is vague because it’s up to you what could use an upgrade in your home; find one bothersome situation and think of what would help you fix it. I found two matching what were probably once candle holders that I cleaned up and started using as salt and pepper pots on my counter once I got tired of looking at the bulk containers. The sky is the limit in this upgrade category.
