What You Need in Your Hospital Bag

Boy oh Boy… I’m 36 weeks into this and my nesting instinct has full on kicked in. After I spent the other day on a step stool cleaning dust off our ceiling fans and then prepping our hallway to be painted (for no reason?) I realized I needed to have a bag packed for when its go-time.

My hot pink duffel is now full of what I figured I’d need so I broke it down and present you what you need to have in your hospital bag!

my actual hospital bag

For Baby:

Cute onesies to go home in! A hat, and maybe some mittens.

I read a story about a baby pooping all over their only going-home onesie and leaving the hospital in just a blanket so I threw two in my bag.

Clothing:
A comfy outfit for me to go home in.

This is a hoodie and joggers both one size up from my pre-pregnancy size, my favorite softest oversize tee shirt and a nursing bra.

Pajamas:

I picked a breast-feeding-friendly night gown and robe that my mother got me for christmas.

Toiletries and Hygiene:

Shampoo and conditioner, a decent razor, disposable adult diapers and menstrual pads.

I had a friend tell me that she slept in depends for weeks after giving birth to avoid ruining panties from bleeding.

Comfort Items/ Labor tools:

Pictured is my heated blanket which brings me some peace when I’m anxious.

The Mighty Mama Movement Birthing Class that I took taught me to take control of making my birthing environment as relaxing as possible for myself so I also threw a lavender room spray in with my toiletries for some aromatherapy.

Other ideas for this are a night light for dim lighting, a portable speaker for a relaxing playlist and your own pillow from home.
