10 Self-Loving Ideas for New Years Resolutions!

The New Year can be a powerful time to decide to make a big or small change in your life. These resolution ideas are set in the form of routines in order to challenge you to show yourself that you are actually capable of keeping promises to yourself and that you can find a way to become organized with even one thing if you stick with it.

Check out my post on why your New Years Resolution should be a routine if you’re not convinced that you could benefit from one!

1) Exercise 3 times a week

To keep this routine you’ll plan and make time for 3 work outs each week. Some can be long, some can be short, some will be intense, and some will be as minimal effort as you can put in in order to fulfill it that week. You’ll learn to be flexible with yourself, and to set boundaries and priorities with this one.

2) Stretch or do Yoga each morning

If you find yourself complaining of back or hip pain every day, this routine helps you prioritize what you’re always meaning to do to help yourself. You’ll be able to explore different videos or forms of instruction to target your own areas that cause you the most pain and find whatever way to do it that might fit into your busy life.

3) Meditate or Pray Before bed each night

This routine will help you bring yourself some peace. as someone who has struggled with anxiety, I can say this really does make a difference. you can find guided meditations or stick with very simple techniques like noting. If prayer is more your thing, you can find written ones or even learn to use beads or a rosary to focus.

4) Meal Prep your Lunches each Sunday

To meal prep you’ll learn where you spend your money on food, how to shop and cook for yourself, how long it takes to do each step, what a portion size is etc… This routine teaches you SO MUCH. That’s all not to mention the fact that it will save you money and give you control of your diet that you don’t have when you depend on finding food in a cafeteria or out each day.

5) Put effort into your Appearance each day

This idea helps you manage your time by allowing you permission to care about how you look when you go out. It doesn’t have to mean applying makeup daily (but it can), it could be as simple as planning what to wear the night before, or making an effort to find a way to do your hair each day that helps you feel confident.

It most importantly is for people who have been shamed for caring about their looks or found themselves with low self worth that can’t justify for one reason or another caring about their appearance. Making this a habit for myself allowed me to enter more situations in everyday life with confidence and taught me that its not shameful or prideful to care about what I look like, instead it can actually be a way of honoring my body.

6) Drink Enough Water (3L or 80 oz)

I don’t think I need to get too deep into the benefits of making this a resolution as it really is talked about everywhere. This is for everyone and anyone trying to improve anything from physical to mental health.

7) Pick 1 “Hard” thing to do each day

This resolution allows you the most creativity and it’s for those who really want a challenge. The idea is to find something that maybe you don’t want to do or don’t like to do but know you must and do it. One day it could be making a phone call that you’d rather put off, maybe another day it’s apologizing and seeking forgiveness for something you did wrong. the growth is really endless with this one.

8) Set a Bed and Wake Time

The people with bad sleep habits know who they are. You probably don’t need to be told that your sleep affects everything in your life. don’t pick this one if you have newborn coming or you work a job with rotating shifts, we don’t set ourselves up for failure here. If you have life circumstances that allow for this you can explore night time relaxation techniques and find ways to gently get yourself out of bed without anxiety and rushing in the morning. This will serve you your entire life if you spend a year focusing on improving it.

9) Make Your Bed

Learn to get up and accomplish something immediately. Show yourself you deserve a neat or tidy space. Respect your belongings enough to maintain them daily. This habit puts you on a roll for a whole morning routine, it is the gateway habit.

10) Write in a Journal

Writing a little bit each day can help you reflect on what you learn and help you work through tough things you experience. You’ll also learn to manage your time and how to forgive yourself if you miss an entry, just always get back to it if you stop!
